Illness prevention and client education, two of Riversong staff members’ most vital responsibilities, are centered around regular wellness exams. A wellness exam involves a thorough examination of the pet. Dr. Ann will listen to heart and lung sounds, consider the condition of the skin and coat, check the pet’s ears and eyes, and inspect the teeth and mouth.
A yearly wellness exam is recommended for all pets up to 8 years old. Geriatric pets, those 8 years and older, benefit from semi-annual wellness exams. Remember cats and dogs age faster than we do, which makes early detection of signs and symptoms even more important.
A basic nail trim is included in an annual or semi-annual wellness exam. Many clients combine other annually-recommended procedures, such as a heartworm screen, fecal float exam, vaccines or titer with the wellness exam.
